Future Day was first publicly discussed at the Humanity+ Leadership: MINDS conference on September 15, 2011 in Second Life
The idea was floated by Humanity + Vice Chair Dr. Ben Goertzel and enthusiastically received by many people and the rest is a ‘’future’’ history….
The idea behind “Future Day” is as follows;
”Holidays provide a fantastic way of channeling peoples’ attention and energy. Most of our holidays are focused on past events or individuals, or on the rhythms of nature. History and nature are wonderful and should be honored — but the amazing future we are building together should be honored as well. Future Day is a way of focusing and celebrating the energy that more and more people around the world are directing toward creating a radically better future.”
"Future Day" is designed as a day for all people of the world to celebrate, to think and produce ideas for a better future by focusing on futuristic projects. The idea of Future Day has been put forward and designed by Ufuk Tarhan (President of High Advisory Board of Futurists Association) for the first time and represented by the Turkish Futurists Association in Turkey.
Turkish Futurists Association executes many projects for individuals and organizations since 2005 to improve awareness about future. Association decided to start to celebrate 1st of March every year as Future Day starting from 2013.
First Future Day theme has been selected as “More Forward” to represent our “continuous desire to move to a better & sustainable future”.
Association would like to realize the following steps in later years;
- All Governments should declare March 1’s as public holiday.
- Students should create Future Day projects for a better future,
- Future Day costume parties, costume balls, design competitions should be organized.
- Employees should be free to develop innovative ideas for the future.
- Media Companies should make special future issues and publications on each 1st of March as Future Day.
